To start, there should be a distinction made between ethical porn and ethical porn consumption because on the surface it can look exactly the same. Context is key here, as cliches and other stereotypes are subjective to the viewer.
Ethical porn is not simply an interpretation of the finished product. It starts with informed consent between performers and producers. Here both parties are responsible for their part in the process, with an emphasis on cultivating an environment that encourages open dialogue between all parties involved. The consumer has a responsibility in how they purchase and emotionally process their porn, but that is separate from how it is created.
Like any other industry, ethical practice begins with the intention of treating others respectfully as equals. At its best, this idea is reflected in the ethos of the company and how it produces content.
